The House System is in place to embody the values and ethos of the school “that each and every unique child in our care hears and responds to what God is calling them to be”. As the House System aims to be an integral part of our school community, in time, it is our ambition that the 'House Captains' will work to create a stronger pupil voice to motivate students and further the community spirit of the school.

House System Objectives

Our aim is to provide every pupil in each house with the following:

• a sense of belonging within the school community
• opportunities to develop social, intellectual, physical and practical skills
• a sense of achievement both inside and outside of the classroom
• fun and excitement through competition
• opportunities for pupil leadership
• an awareness of individual and collective responsibility
• further develop the pupil experience at Saint John Wall

House Organisation

Pupils are placed into one of the five houses on entrance to the school where they remain until the end of Year 10. Each of the houses in our School has two designated Year 10 House Captains who will act as representatives for all the students in their house throughout the year by: helping co-ordinate house teams, organise activities and events and represent their house at relevant meetings. All of the events that are held are designed in order to help foster the sense of community and belonging as well as active participation that are the founding principles of the House system. House Captains will visit forms on a regular basis in order to find participants for the House events.

How to earn house points: guidelines and information

Each House is in competition with each other to achieve the highest number of house points at the end of each term and most importantly by the end of the year when there will be prizes as well as a house trip. Previous House winners have visited Inflata nation Theme Park,  Drayton Manor Park for the day, Cadbury World as well as Rush Trampoline Park.

Regular house point totals will be advertised in our end of the month newsletter and the overall rankings at the end of every term to see which house is in the lead for the main prize.

Pupils can contribute to their house point totals in a number of ways both in and out of the classroom. All pupils are expected to participate in at least one of the many house events/activities.

• House Activities - Curriculum areas provide house activities organised throughout the year for all Year Groups to enter. These activities are outlined on the school house board outside the pastoral offices and will be advertised with further details on how to get involved in the weekly newsletter.
• Clubs - Pupils can also earn house points for their involvement with clubs inside or outside school. These can be achieved by pupils showing commitment through high attendance, outstanding effort and outstanding achievement. 
• Achievement - Pupils can also earn house points for varying achievements such as: Homework, praise postcards and attainment/progress, where pupils are nominated by staff for showing a positive attitude to school life and its community and by also earning through BromCom.
• Extra-curricular Competitions – Pupils can also earn house points if they regularly enter competitions advertised in school for: representing their school, showing commitment and an active sense of involvement with extra-curricular opportunities.
• Attendance – Pupils who achieve 100% attendance each term or those showing significant improvement receive a house point. Those pupils are placed in to a draw for a gift voucher at the end of the academic year.
